Welcome to The Barbra Streisand Album
Directory section of The BSMG, which features a unique, custom-designed multimedia page for each of
Barbra Streisand's official, commercially released albums. Her 63 albums (the official
count), which include film soundtracks, are pictured here (except Guilty
Pleasures, Live In Concert 2006, and Love Is The Answer) and listed in the table below. The image at left provides direct links from each chronologically pictured album cover to the corresponding pages. Alternatively, you may click on the album titles in the
table below. A supplemental list following the table includes links to pages for non-Streisand soundtrack albums and albums by other artists containing collaborations with Barbra not otherwise available on Streisand albums in the same versions. Every album page includes complete track listings, release dates, production credits, supplemental information, and graphics, including album covers, movie photos, and other specially-selected images.
Over 100 RealAudio and Windows Media Player song excerpts are provided among the album pages.
Excluded in the Directory are bootlegs and promo releases, as well as albums by other artists, and various artist compilations, which merely duplicate recordings identical to those contained on Streisand albums.
Gold and Platinum: Beside each Barbra Streisand album in the table below is an indication of whether the title has been RIAA-certified Gold, Platinum, or Diamond. G signifies Gold certification after shipping 500,000 units since the title's release. P signifies Platinum certification after shipping 1 million units. If the P is preceded by a number, it signifies that multiple million units have been certified, and only that most recent certification date is provided. D signifies Diamond certification and sales of at least 10 million units, but no Streisand album has yet achieved that status. Each title submitted by record companies undergoes a certification process through the RIAA before it is eligible for an award. The process entails an independent sales audit, which calculates the quantity of singles or albums shipped for sale, net after returns. The audit surveys shipments to the entire music marketplace, including retail, record clubs, television sales, Internet orders and other ancillary markets. Based on the certification of these shipments, a title is awarded Gold, Platinum, Multi-Platinum or Diamond status. The data comes directly from official sources, mainly the RIAA online database. In November 1999 the RIAA named Barbra as one of its Artists of the Century, the biggest-selling female recording artist in the U.S. The information on this page will be updated as new certifications are announced or data requires correction. Single record and home video/DVD certifications are provided here.
In addition to the RIAA certifications, for each album in the table, place your mouse pointer on the
to see release dates and Billboard chart information. This data has been meticulously and thoroughly researched to the greatest extent possible. Because there is some uncertainty regarding many specific day/month/year release
dates from the earlier decades, only those 100% certain dates are provided here, mainly for the later albums. Otherwise, accurate month/year release data is offered to suffice until we receive more specific dates. The Billboard (BB) chart data begins with the debut chart date, followed by the number of weeks on the Top 200 chart, and finally the peak chart position. Albums reaching #1 have ( ) to indicate the number of chart-topping weeks.

Columbia/Sony Music Entertainment has released all the above titles on CD except the Funny Girl Broadway cast album (Angel/EMI, 1992), Hello, Dolly! soundtrack (Philips/PolyGram, 1994), and Funny Lady soundtrack (Arista, 1998). Columbia's The Owl And The Pussycat soundtrack has never been released on CD. In the first quarter of 2008 Sony BMG Special Markets recatalogued and lowered the price of 29 of these titles - available at Amazon.com.
Supplemental Recordings and Unusual Releases
Reissues
In 2002 Columbia issued the following CDs, all remastered from the original master tapes by Stephen Marcussen. These replace previous Columbia editions in stores. Each disc boasts truly state of the art CD sound reproduction in specially designed brand-new packaging, restoring original LP artwork and notes. Stickered individually with new catalog numbers and classic red Columbia CD labels, there will be no mistaking these reissues. Also note that the "Compact Disc" logo has been omitted from each insert cover's lower right corner. Columbia wants to have the best-sounding discs in stores for Barbra's 40th anniversary year with the label. Additional remastered titles should be forthcoming eventually.
Between 1994 and 1997, Columbia Records issued remastered versions of 24 Barbra Streisand CDs, which had been previously released in the 1980s. Including the original CD catalog number, the packaging is unchanged, except for a white sticker affixed to the jewel box, which reads "Digitally Restored From The Original Master Tapes/Digitally Remastered." These remastered titles include:
Sound engineer John Arrias handled the remastering in the 1990s and in some instances remixed the tracks. Arrias detailed the process to Ice in 1995, boasting "The differences in the '60s stuff is amazing. The Christmas Album, Funny Girl, Je m'appelle...all of those sound spectacular now. You can hear instruments that you've never heard before." Arrias isn't exaggerating; the remastered Funny Girl CD is truly remarkable, offering a whole new listening experience.
"Live Concert At The Forum was completely remixed from scratch," Arrias explains. "I went back to the original multi-track master and remixed every track. And some of the versions are extended now; on 'Sweet Inspiration,' for instance, they faded it out early [on the LP and original CD]; I kept it going an extra minute or so." Arrias also segued that track into "Didn't We," eliminating the forced gap between songs, which had previously existed to separate the two sides of the LP. "And Yentl was always a problem; it had a lot of hiss on it. We cleaned that up quite a bit."
Important Note: There will be no additional white-stickered remastered CDs. I do recommend all the remastered titles but wish to make buyers aware of some background information and problems, which had been sporadically occurring with the discs since their release. Despite the white "remastered" stickering, several fans
discovered that some of the new CDs they acquired were identical to the originals, including the letter/number codes etched on the disc's inner ring, with no audible sound improvements. Sony Music's manufacturing plants had inadvertently placed non-remastered CDs in white-stickered jewel boxes. Its Quality Management Department continues to exchange them for remastered CDs at the request of individual consumers. Thankfully for all concerned, as of January 1998, these packaging errors had become less
prevalent. As of June 1998, all above titles were in production and distribution.
Columbia unveiled the 11 titles below on CD with a gold "Digitally Remastered" sticker and new catalog numbers on October 19, 1993.
