The following list refers to 7-inch Columbia U.S. singles unless otherwise indicated.
This is your complete guide to all of Barbra Streisand's U.S. single record releases. Particularly notable are
"crucial" singles - those which feature songs or alternate/edited/instrumental versions not currently available anywhere else, including any Streisand album. In the listing below,
crucial singles appear in boldface with a brief explanation of each's significance. If
crucial or especially noteworthy, promo and foreign singles are listed below. The majority of the records listed here contain identical or edited versions of album originals. Also, selected downloadable U.S. and European picture sleeves are available by clicking the thumbnail images. A complete list of Streisand promo singles is not currently listed on this Web site. If you are searching for a particular song which has been officially released, but it is not listed below, be sure to browse The Barbra Streisand Album Directory. Most of the following records are out-of-print and quite rare, but may be located through specialty stores and dealers. The "Hall of Fame" series singles are still available from some stores and dealers.
- "Crucial" recordings appearing in boldface are not available on album, with two exceptions*.
- (PS) denotes single released with picture sleeve or insert.
- The Billboard (BB) chart data begins with the debut chart date, followed by the number of weeks on the Hot 100 Singles chart, and finally the peak chart position. Singles reaching #1 have ( ) to indicate the number of chart-topping weeks. Singles that didn't chart in the Hot 100 have no chart data listed.
- RIAA certifications are also provided. A Gold single (G) is awarded after 1 million copies sold, and a Platinum single (P) after 2 million copies sold.
Side A: Miss Marmelstein (Barbra Streisand)
Side B: Who Knows? (Marilyn Cooper)
#JZSP 57067, released April 1962 (PS, promo only)
Barbra Streisand's "Miss Marmelstein" showstopper from the musical I Can Get It For You Wholesale marks her first appearance on a Columbia
single, even though it's only one side of a promotional single, which was released only to radio stations. The version matches that on the original cast album.
Note the mispelling of her first name on the record label.
Happy Days Are Here Again / When The Sun Comes Out
#4-42631,
released November 1962
Barbra's first commercial single was arranged and
conducted by George Williams and recorded at Columbia's NYC studios in
mid-October before her first album sessions the following January. Only 500 copies were pressed for the New York market and none sent to radio stations.
My Coloring Book / Lover, Come Back To Me
#4-42648, released November 1962
Barbra's second single was arranged and conducted by
Robert Mersey ("Coloring") and George Williams ("Lover") and recorded before her first album sessions. It was actually serviced to
radio stations. Although produced by Mike Berniker, who so deftly
produced Barbra's first three LPs, Streisand and Berniker don't regard
the first two singles as particularly memorable.

Released for first time on CD in 2002 as bonus track on non-U.S./Canada
remastered editions of People album.

2. Everything Must Change (Barbra)
3. Where Is The Love (Celine)
#665305-2, released November 3, 1997 (outside U.S., PS)
Labeled "radio edit," this version of "Tell Him" is crucial in name
only. The supposedly slightly remixed track for radio virtually matches the album version.
Can you discern them? The two additional tracks come from Barbra's Higher Ground album and Celine's Let's Talk About Love albums.
The radio edit originally appeared on the Columbia #BSK 3469 promo single along
with the album version. A 12-inch vinyl single (#665205-6) containing four songs - the "Tell Him" radio edit and album version, plus the two Barbra and Celine solo tracks - was pressed in Holland and became available there, in France, and some other countries in November; it's now out-of-print. The CD single was cancelled a few weeks before its scheduled November 4th U.S. release date. At the end of September in the U.S., Sony Music released to a few retailers a very limited edition 7-inch vinyl single (#36 78737) containing only the "Tell Him" radio edit on both sides, which is now out-of-print.
