Auditorium, The Handlebar (Wally Heider Recording), and A&M Recording
Studios for original motion picture soundtrack.
- Streisand vocals on all except tracks 1, 5, and 9 which feature Kris
Kristofferson solos.
- Barbra remembers in Just For The Record: "I had to learn to play the guitar for a scene in A Star Is Born (which was later cut from the film)...I was also trying to write a song...One of these melodies became 'Evergreen'. When I played it for Marty Erlichman, he said flatly that it would be a hit, and not just a hit...but #1...Marty had made the same prediction for 'The Way We Were'...he was right again."
- 3rd Streisand album to reach #1 on charts, February 1977.
- Grammy Awards: Song of the Year ("Evergreen"), Best Pop Female Vocal
Performance - "Evergreen," Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s) - "Evergreen" (Ian
Freebairn-Smith)
- Academy Award: Best Original Song ("Evergreen")
- BBC Radio 2's Behind
The Glass - The Phil Ramone Story (part 4, 7/5/05) features legendary
producer/engineer Ramone recalling the groundbreaking experience of recording
Barbra live for the film and "Evergreen." Ramone
explained that his job as music supervisor was to help with the choice of
songs. "I went on the road with the movie, because we were going to
record everything live. We redesigned a truck that existed so we could
record and playback instantly, not only the audio but the
video." Listen to an
edited excerpt.
- Reissued January 29, 2002 with original LP art restored, including back
cover photo. Remastered from the
original master tapes by Stephen Marcussen, 2001. CDs released outside U.S.
and Canada include bonus track "Evergreen" (Spanish version),
originally issued on the November 1996 "I Finally Found Someone"
